Wild Horse Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Gothenburg , Nebraska. Gothenburg, Nebraska is located in the heart of Nebraska just off of Interstate 80 at mile marker 211. Two hundred and ninety interstate miles east of Denver, Colorado and one hundred and eighty miles west of Lincoln, Nebraska. The golf course itself is located 1 mile north of Gothenburg on Hwy 47 and then west 1 1/2 miles.
Wild Horse Golf Course first opened for play in 1998. The course was designed by Dan Proctor and Dave Axland.
South-central Nebraska is a long way from anywhere, but it's worth the trail ride to get to Wild Horse. This "Carnoustie of the Corn Belt" tumbles through windswept, treeless terrain, where half the battle is keeping the ball from bounding into links-like bunkers and tall native grasses. So complete is the test offered that Wild Horse has been described as the public version of nearby Sand Hills. That comes as no surprise: course architects Dave Proctor and Dave Axland were instrumental in helping Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw create that celebrated course.
Wild Horse Golf Course is a combination of Scottish/Irish links-styles. It is set on 300 acres of beautiful rolling hills on the edge of the Sand Hills. The course is lined throughout with unplayable rough that ranges between one and two-feet tall. The fairways are medium width and open, while the greens average 6,000-square feet in size, are fast and are a mixture between flat and undulating. This course has many sand bunkers and natural blowouts.
The golf course at Wild Horse Golf Club plays to 6,805 yards. Par for the couse is 72. The course rating is 73.0 with a slope rating of 125.
Wild Horse Golf Course was ranked #1 on the list of 50 best courses under $50.

One of FIVE 5-star courses along I-80 in Nebraska. WILD HORSE is one of the best in the state! The others are BAYSIDE in Ogalalla, AWARII DUNES in Kearney, and IRON HORSE and QUARRY OAKS in Ashland. We travel 250 miles each summer to play WILD HORSE, and it's spectacular every time! Fast Greens! Perfect Fairways! Membership rates are a steal! This is the most WALKABLE golf course I've ever played - by far. Play this golf course, and stay at the new Comfort Suites. They have an $85 double room "golf" rate! Ask for it!

I live in Texas and was visiting my home state with playing this course in mind. I am a senior player and the course offers a fair challenge and a unique golfing experience. It is unique due to the setting and atmosphere of the course. The greens were pure and very, very fast with lots of undulations. The fairways are generous in width to avoid the native habitat which would slow pace of play. I hope to play this course again on visits to Nebraska.

Great course. Some local knowledge is helpful. Layout is treeless, with hard and fast greens - bump and run is a good option at times. Course inspires a lot of thought - angles at which you approach greens will make a huge difference. Other good courses within an hour - recommended.

Being an Omaha, Nebraska resident I have had the chance to play many courses in the area, as well as, many courses across the US during my annual "golf trips" and I must say that Wild Horse is in my TOP 5 courses I have EVER played and by far my favorite in the state of Nebraska. It is definately my #1 as far as VALUE, I recommend this awesome course to any true golf enthusiast for an experience of true, natural terrain golf, the way it was meant to be.

Wild Horse is one of the best courses in Nebraska and in the whole plains area of the country. Many people compare it to The Sandhills which is in the top 10 in the USA and top 15 in the world. For $60 it's probably the best value in the country. Condition of the course is always top notch. It's challenging but rewards great shots. Fairways and greens are very firm and fast. If you are in the area it's definitely the course to play. People travel from all over the country to play it. Currently ranked #77 for courses that anyone can play.
